DARYL ANN COOK
Artist’s StatementI have been making monotypes for several years although my route to monotype started years ago. I have always enjoyed the process of art making that uses mechanical means such as silk-screen printing. I was introduced to monotype during a watercolor class. I was hooked immediately.I print with a Takack floor model etching press and I work out of a studio in the Fort Pointe Channel area of Boston. Most of my prints are on paper I have made. I work primarily in the reduction method and I print one color at a time. The layers of color and press runs can be as few as four and up to fifteen or more. This method creates rich depth of color and complexity. I explore the use of images that evoke the transitory nature of relationships and express these in a narrative format. I also refer to this as a journey. The journey through relationships involves experiences that are joyous, tragic, intense, full of love, and occasionally constricted with fear. The over arching theme is that all relationships are spiritually rich. As I work on this narrative, I find myself taking side trips. Exploring how to depict the parts of the story that remain unknown to us. Choices made that cancel out other options and future possibilities. Recently I have been creating books and using woodcuts with my prints; and exploring images and themes of regeneration.
