Statement

I bicycled my way into Art by taking a painting course sponsored by the P. W. A., during the great depression. I earned a BSAE at Massachusetts College of Art. Then, I served two years in the US Marines and used my G. I. Bill to earn an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. I sold the pieces from my degree show, to pay for my passage to Manila, to marry a talented classmate from Cranbrook.

In the Philippines, I served as coordinator of Art and Copy for J. W. Thompson and Art Director for M. M. Castro Publishing, while teaching at several colleges.

When the time came for our three children to start their education, we returned to Massachusetts. I joined the Art staff of the Weymouth Public Schools, where I taught for 28 years.

In 1991, I was looking for new printing techniques to present to my students, and I signed up for a Monoprinting course at the South Shore Art Center, where found I enjoyed the challenge of Monoprinting. A decade later, I am still intrigued by the sport.
