IRONS

BACKGROUND:
After a career as a professional potter, Irene Miller found a new passion, monotype printmaking Her background as a potter and the marks she made on her ceramics have influenced the shape and design of her monotypes and mixed media works on paper.  Irene prints on the presses at Creative Arts Workshop, New Haven, Connecticut..

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
My prints and mixed-media works are in the most part non-representational but straddle the line between realism and abstraction.   I use family photos and documents and ideas that have long been a part of my life and surroundings.  I have been experimenting with textures, layers, and lines and how they interact with each other on the paper.  Using layers of similar colors and values I build up my prints and collages with various printing and transferring techniques.   My artwork is also based on mark-making and how the mark in its abstract nature is able to communicate the excitement I feel in composing my work.
