       Artist Statement

I'm drawn to monotype by the spontaneity and intimacy of creating an image directly on the plate. I enjoy the intrigue of experimenting with materials and processes (dark and light field, transfers of image and texture, trace prints, and stencils). Monotype presents rich opportunities to combine the linework of drawing, color and form of painting, and the texture and layering of printmaking. A love of gardening and fascination with the history of botanical art have long served as inspiration and resource. My prints are impressionistic renderings of plant forms and the coastal landscape, which I continue to find compelling and beautiful.
