I began to paint with words at an early age; later I fell in love with the letter form's infinite variations. Combining my love of words and the images they produce with the joy of color and design, I found myself drawn to the discipline of the monoprint; its physicality, lack of boundaries and limitless potential for interpretation, it is often frustrating, frequently inspiring, occasionally satisfying, always challenging. I frequently incorporate monoprints into miniature unique artist's books, limned with a calligraphed quote or verse.
Calligraphy commissioned by a New England Lutheran church, paintings and monoprints in private collections in the US, England and Japan and in the Boston Public Library's American Printmaking Collection, and as cover art for a literary journal, span a lifetime of artistic intensity and diligence.
I inherited my artistic talent from my mother, an artist in her own right and my first and most ardent fan, who constantly nurtured both my art and my writing.
