Anna Mavromatis

BIO

Anna Mavromatis was born in Athens, Greece, studied Architecture at the University of Naples, Italy, holds a BA (Hons), 1982 from London College of Fashion – University of the Arts London, and lives in Houston, since 1985. She studied Printmaking at Glassell School of Art, MFA Houston. The narrative in her artwork addresses the longing to re-connect with people, situations, beliefs and roots long lost. She addresses it as a quest to revisit unresolved encounters and to reach new understandings in her family’s past and their influence in her present life. The invitation to exhibit her cyanotype works in Houston Center for Contemporary Craft Cyan Silhouettes exhibit during FotoFest 2014 gave Anna the rare opportunity for an artist to produce works from the heart without commercial constraints, resulting in a deep understanding of the center’s noble mission in Houston’s art scene. She presently serves as member of HCCC’s Governing Board, as well as the Exhibition and Artists in Residence Selection Committees. Anna spends her time between Houston and New York.
