The Monotype Guild of New England is pleased to announce the Jurors’ selection of Award Winners for our current members exhibition DOWN EAST at the Saco Museum in Saco, Maine. These award winners were chosen from 50 unique prints selected by the Jurors from 155 prints submitted by 84 artist members. The list of artists and works are below. Thank you to all who entered and congratulations to all those with work that were selected for awards.
Jurors:
CATHERINE KERNAN is a painter and printmaker who is co-owner, co-founder, and director of Mixit Print Studio, a professional open rental printmaking studio in Somerville, Massachusetts. Her teaching credits include: Anderson Ranch, MassArt / Art New England, MakingArtSafely, and the Center for Contemporary Printmaking as well as the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Wellesley College, the Rhode Island School of Design, Mass College of Art, and Pine Manor College. Residencies include the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ireland; Anderson Ranch; MacDowell Colony; and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Catherine Kernan’s work is in the collections of, among others, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Fogg Art Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Boston Public Library, Grunewald Collection, New York Public Library, Library of Congress, and the Detroit Institute of Art.
JOSEPHINE GRAF is a writer and curator based in New York City. She holds an MA from The Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. Her writing has appeared in publications including Mousse, frieze, X-TRA, Cura, and The Brooklyn Rail. She recently spoke at the Whitney Museum of American Art on the work of Win McCarthy, and organized an exhibition of Pooh Kaye’s early films at Shoot the Lobster in New York.

Saco Museum: Located on Saco’s historic Main Street, the SACO MUSEUM is a regional museum of fine and decorative arts and historic artifacts. It is the third oldest museum in Maine. The Saco Museum was founded in March of 1866 as the York Institute. In the 1970s, the York Institute merged with the Dyer Library Association to provide an integrated cultural experience for visitors and the local community. The museum’s name was changed in 2000 to the Saco Museum. The museum’s galleries are set up to allow changing exhibitions showcasing the extraordinary collections, special interpretive exhibits, and important works by contemporary artists.
