Contemplation I, Series VI
27 x 27 Monoprint/Litho, 2014

ARTIST STATEMENT/BIO

Over the years, the content of my work has included images associated with places that are special to me, sociopolitical issues, as well as the expressive nature of space, texture, and color. However, what I find most satisfying is creating images relating to the shoreline, and the life forms nearby. I have traveled to the Outer Banks of NC for many years, also to Cape Cod and the Rhode Island Shoreline, and these rich experiences have been a major inspiration for my ocean and beach theme works.

In 2007 I began a series I titled “Contemplation.” These images were quickly referred to as mandalas, and they certainly are mandala like. I discovered how much I love working in the format of a circle within a square, and I have recently completed Contemplation, Series Six. I especially enjoy the exploration of color and design within this format.

I fell in love with monoprinting at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, and have worked in this medium since 1997. I studied printmaking at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA most semesters, beginning in 2001 through 2011. Prior to 2001 I was enrolled in printmaking classes at Southern CT State University and the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT. I hold Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Southern Connecticut State University

I am member of Full Tilt Print Studio, Hyde Park, MA, where I do my printing. I am a member of the Monotype Guild of New England, and served as its President from 2005 through 2008 and its Exhibition Chair from 2008 – 2011. I am also a member of the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, in New Haven CT, the Hamden Art League, and the New Haven Arts Council.

My works are in many private collections.
