Joan Dix Blair

Woodcut Construction #4 (moving turquoise)
9 x 9  Monoprint, 2017

ARTIST STATEMENT

Printmaking and drawing are my mediums. The matrix, the plate, is an intermediary between hand and image that I find to be both useful and necessary. I make monoprints, very small editions, or monotypes – my process becomes sequential by modifying and re-using the same plate. I work in abstraction to render a sense of memory or of place. Recent work involves literature. I use traditional techniques of etching and woodcut.
