Singular: Monotypes & Monoprints

February 7 – March 28, 2020

A Monotype Guild of New England Members’ Invitational Exhibit at:
#LOCAL Gallery, 40 Cottage Street, Easthampton, MA 01027

Reception: Friday, February 7, 2020, 6-9pm

Join MGNE and #LOCAL Gallery of Easthampton, Massachusetts in celebrating Singular: Monotypes and Monoprints, a regional member-initiated exhibition by the Monotype Guild of New England, curated by MGNE Members Doris Madsen, Elisa Lanzi and Edda Sigurðardóttir. The gallery is located at 40 Cottage Street, Easthampton, Massachusetts.

Monotypes and monoprints are “singular” one-of-a-kind and unique art works. Dating back to the 17th century, the monotype process offers the artist an opportunity for direct visual expression using hand-pulled techniques. Besides being the opposite of many or plural, “singular” can mean extraordinary or spectacular as in a “singular experience”. Something that surprises can be singular. It can also refer to being unusual or strange, as in a “singular behavior”.

The exhibition will feature an artists’ reception on February 7, 6-9 pm, a printmaking demonstration at the Gallery by exhibiting artist Lynn Peterfreund on February 13, 6-8 pm, and an Art Salon with selected artists on February 28, 6-8 pm. The reception on February 7 is part of Easthampton Art Walk, held on the first Friday of every month 6-9 pm. This exhibit is supported in part by a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council, a local agency which is sponsored by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
